Nancy Drew 31 Day Challengeday 26↳ memories of playing the games

My favorite by far is this experience from my first time playing Alibi In Ashes. I remember that day was sunny and warm, and it was spring, just like in the game. I felt so good! I’ve associated the taste of peaches with Nancy Drew and happiness ever since.
I remember the mad excitement of installing a game for the first time. My stepdad helped me install MHM, and the anticipation was so intense, I still recall the feeling after 12 years. That thrill of rushing through the installation process of each new game, waiting impatiently as it loads, desperate to get to the game itself, has never worn off.
I remember when I received Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake as a present on Christmas 2002, and literally screamed at the top of my lungs when I unwrapped it. None of my other presents could compare. I spent the whole day itching to get some free time so I could play. And that night I first experienced the dog attack scene…
I remember reading Meryl’s journal in Secret of Shadow Ranch, and crying so hard my face was red and I couldn’t stop sobbing. For days afterward, I fantasized scenarios where Frances rescued Dirk and they got to run away together.
I remember memorizing facts about the Maya from hearing the audio clips over and over in Secret of the Scarlet Hand. I got so interested that I started studying them more, and doodled Mayan hieroglyphs on my school papers. It’s led to a genuine passionate interest in Mayan culture. One of my big dreams is to visit Chichen Itza, and I watch every documentary I can get my hands on. I’d love to speak Yucatec Maya one day.
More recently, I remember playing The Captive Curse with my older sister since we’re both germanophiles. We spent the whole game cracking inappropriate jokes, snorting at the stuff Lukas says, fawning over Markus’ sexy voice, freaking out over the creepy security videos and phone calls, jumping every time we saw the cow skull, and trying to solve the puzzle in the well. We refused to use a walkthrough, so it took weeks. It was fabulous.
I love how we’re all playing the same games, but it’s such a different and personal experience for everyone.
